Satellite radio's XM87 the Verge has announced the finalists for this year's Verge Music Awards, and among them are such Canadian artists as Joel Plaskett, Alexisonfire, Metric and Dan Mangan.
The finalists were selected by the public via online voting. Fans chose from a long list of nominees, all of them Canadian artists in regular rotation on the satellite radio station. This list has now been narrowed down to a top five in two categories: artist of the year and album of the year. Each award comes with a $25,000 prize for the winner.
The winners will be determined by the ambiguously titled "XM Jury," with the results announced on September 22 at the Mod Club in Toronto. The ceremony will include performances from last year's winners, the Weakerthans, and Hey Rosetta!, as well as current nominee Metric. The festivities will also be broadcast live on XM87 the Verge.
