BY Ben ConoleyPublished Jun 18, 2008

Julien Temple’s documentary focusing on the life of the late Joe Strummer is set to be released on DVD July 8, 2008. The Future is Unwritten paints an intimate portrait of the artist who fronted the Clash, told everyone how to be punk, and went on to lead a successful career as a solo artist.

Directed by Temple, who knew Strummer for 30 years before the artist passed away in 2002, The Future is Unwritten features Strummer’s own narration as well as interviews with the likes of Mick Jones, Steve Jones, Bono, Matt Dillon, Flea, Martin Scorsese, Steve Buscemi, Grandmaster Melle Mel, Courtney Love, Anthony Kiedis, and many more.

The Future is Unwritten premiered at the Sundance Festival in January 2007 and made the rounds on the festival circuit and in short run cinemas before landing a DVD release date. Expect the DVD to include all sorts of delicious bonuses, such as director commentary and 100 minutes of deleted footage.
