Published Dec 09, 2010While a couple of months ago we reported that Joan of Arc were looking for your help to record their new album via a Kickstarter campaign, it seems they forgot to mention that they already had a disc on the go. The long-running outfit have announced they're set to issue a new instrumental LP early next year.
Titled Oh Brother, the album will be presented as both a limited-edition double-LP and as a digital package. The vinyl is limited to 500 copies, each hand-numbered, with one to 150 being on white vinyl. Keeping up with the group's always fluctuating membership, this project features collaborations with 14 musicians, including Hella's Zach Hill, Rob Lowe of Lichens and members of related Joan of Arc ventures Make Believe and Cap'n Jazz.
"Oh Brother is the combination of four distinct albums embarked upon but never completed by Joan of Arc curator Tim Kinsella," the press release reads. "Each album is broken up and spliced together into a tessellating unity of long, noisy, meditative and abrasive instrumental movements, which fill the totality of each side of this double LP. Each side -- A, B, C, and D -- contains just one track, with song lengths varying from 20 minutes to 20 minutes and 36 seconds."
Oh Brother will be released February 8 by Joyful Noise Recordings and you can listen to a sample here.
As an aside, the aforementioned Kickstarter campaign was a success, so expect another new album from Joan of Arc sometime in the near future. You can also check out the the band on tour, though only in the U.S.
