Jimmy Fallon Confirms the Roots As His House Band

BY Josiah HughesPublished Dec 10, 2008

As we previously reported, there was a rumour floating around that the Roots might be taking an extended break from touring to act as the house band for Jimmy Fallon's upcoming Late Night With Jimmy Fallon talk show. Well, in a recent vlog from Fallon on his new homepage (see below), he revealed that the Roots are officially at his disposal.

Little else is said about the Roots' involvement with the show, as Fallon mostly talks about the NBC studio he's using, which was previously occupied by showbiz legends like Johnny Carson. Fallon is taking over Conan O'Brien's old time slot as Conan is being upgraded to Jay Leno's slot. If you were celebrating the end of Jay Leno's outdated jokes, well, you'll be bummed to know that NBC has given him a new slot at 10:00 pm. At least he has O.J. Simpson's new DVD to mine for material.

Whether or not the Roots are retiring from touring is yet to be seen, but the legendary rap crew do have two shows booked before the year is over, with dates in Amsterdam and New Jersey.

The Roots' dates:

12/9 Amsterdam, Netherlands -€“ Paradiso
12/30 Atlantic City, NJ - House of Blues
