Jimmy Cliff Announces Tim Armstrong-Produced 'Rebirth' Album

BY Alex HudsonPublished Jun 19, 2012

Last year, reggae legend Jimmy Cliff released his Tim Armstrong-produced Sacred Fire EP, and now the Jamaican hero will drop the full-length follow-up. Entitled Rebirth, the album is due out July 17 through Universal.

The album was once again produced by Armstrong. It includes four of the six tracks from Sacred Fire, including covers of the Clash's "Guns of Brixton" and Rancid's "Ruby Soho." There are also a number of new tracks and two versions of the single "One More." Note that the track "Rebel Rebel" isn't a David Bowie cover; a live performance of Cliff's song is embedded at the bottom of this page.

Speaking of the new album, Cliff said in a statement, "I was inspired to revisit my musical past and decided to go back to my roots on this record. Rebirth is a new chapter in my life and signifies a rebirth in my career and all I have left to accomplish."

See the tracklist below, and download "One More" in exchange for an email address right here. Go to Cliff's official website to see his upcoming tour schedule, which unfortunately doesn't include any shows here in Canada.
