Jim O'Rourke Continues to Dig into His Archives with 'Old News No. 8'
Prolific experimental soundsmith Jim O'Rourke has been mining the vaults the last few years now with his Old News series, most recently with the February release of Old News No. 7. Unsurprisingly, the workaholic has even more material to uncover and has just delivered the details for No. 8.

Editions Mego will deliver the double-LP set October 1. The latest volume jumps back to the early '90s, with the first three sides covering O'Rourke's "Mere" suite, which was originally presented on his 1992 outing Disengage.

Joining the musician on these recording sessions are trombonist Jeff Cortazzo, cellist Sue Wolf and Michael Prime, who is listed as playing "shortwave." The three pieces also include vocals from Geoff Fontaine, Gretchen Wells, Matt Guerierri, and Scott Shell.

Side four, meanwhile, features the thematically linked "Merely," an 18-minute track recorded live at Depaul University in 1991. O'Rourke's performance was assisted by percussionist Carrie Biolo.

All tracks were remastered this year at Steamroom Tokyo.
