Jim James Sheds Light on Plans for Monsters of Folk, My Morning Jacket

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Jan 22, 2013

Jim James has been spending the last little while preparing for his upcoming solo set Regions of Light and Sound of God, but what of the singer-songwriter's band-based projects, namely the long-running My Morning Jacket or indie supergroup Monsters of Folk? If a Reddit Q&A session with James earlier today (January 22) is to be believed, we've got albums from both to look forward to in the future.

Starting with Monsters of Folk, the project James formed with Conor Oberst, M. Ward and Mike Mogis, the outfit are apparently already a few songs deep into writing the follow-up to their self-titled 2009 debut. Details are still developing, but it looks like they hope to tie the LP to an upcoming film project.

"Yes MOF we are alive and well and hiding out in a valley on the southernmost point tip of mexico," James wrote. "We have worked on 5 new songs and also are developing a screenplay to be turned into a full length major motion picture. Currently we are looking for a studio to take on the picture and also the album."

Though the specifics are relatively slim at this point, this should be welcome news to Monster of Folk fans who may have felt duped after a phony twitter account for Conor Oberst delivered news of an LP back in 2010.

As for My Morning Jacket, they may not have released an LP since 2011's Circuital, but bandleader James assured that the Lousiville troupe "plan on working this summer and fall to get another one cookin.'"

You can check out the rest of the Q&A session, which includes James' tips on how to care for a "manly mane of hair" and some insight on Regions of Light and Sound of God, over here.
