"If Chairs Were Bears"

A lot of people have waited a long time for new Jim Guthrie music and here, at last, is a kinda, sorta new song by the renowned, underground popsmith. The playfully catchy "If Chairs Were Bears" is an older yet unreleased Guthrie song, featuring all his hallmarks for quirky instrumentation and arrangement mixed perfectly with a whimsical, romantic innocence.

The song is due to appear on the official soundtrack for the new film, When We Were Boys. A documentary set at Royal St. Georges College, an elite prep school for young men, When We Were Boys was directed by Toronto-based filmmaker Sarah Goodman, and will open on Friday November 6th at the Royal Cinema (608 College St.) in her hometown. The film was received well after its world premiere at the 2009 Hot Docs Festival, and has garnered more attention thanks to its score, which was also composed by Guthrie.

The soundtrack won't be out until February 2010 but the song is already available as a stream/mp3 download on the film's website. So enjoy! But also, don't sit on any bears everyone.
