Published Oct 03, 2011Aussie pop rockers the Jezabels have three EPs under their belt, and now they're finally ready to drop their first full-length. For the Canadian release, they have signed to Dine Alone Records, and will issue Prisoner on November 8.
The disc came out last month in Australia. According to a press release, it's "a pop album on the surface is loaded with spectacular hooks, swelling melodies and several layers of sound and meaning."
Frontwoman Hayley Mary said this of the title: "The lyrics are set out as a letter to a prisoner. I'm interested in the idea of your personal role in your own oppression. To a certain extent the album explores the idea of looking at yourself as a prisoner and asking about the reasons for that. Are they external or are they internal?"
The album was mostly recorded in Sydney's Attic Studio with producer Lachlan Mitchell. It was mixed by Peter Katis, who has previously worked with Interpol, the National, the Swell Season and more. The expansive, dramatic single "Endless Summer" is streaming at the bottom of the page.
Once the record is out, the Jezabels will be touring North America and hitting up major Canadian cities with homeland favourites Hey Rosetta! Scroll past the tracklist to see the Jezabels' North American schedule. They also have a slew of Australian dates which you can check out here.
