Published Dec 09, 2013After first being teased last year, it's now confirmed that Tomahawk/the Jesus Lizard six-string weirdo Duane Denison will be issuing the debut album with his the Unsemble project in 2014. Ipecac will have the group's self-titled set in stores March 3.
A press release for the album explains that the instrumental trio, which also includes Einstürzende Neubauten guitarist-bassist Alexander Hacke and former Silver Jews skinsman Brian Kotzur, have prepped a 15-song set balancing improv pieces with "careful compositions." Song samples have not yet been let loose, but Denison had previously hinted that the Unsemble's debut, recorded in his hometown of Nashville, veers off from its members previous ventures.
"We wanted to work on something that was typically not what we do," Denison had told Rolling Stone in 2012. "Something that's not so rock and riff-based and overdriven in that way."
At the time, it was hinted that the album would clock in at roughly 40 minutes of music that the group hoped could be incorporated somehow into the world of performance art, with Denison further explaining: "We're working on music that we consider primarily to be dance or theatrical soundtrack-type music, but we'll see."
