Last month, we learned that experimental indie pop combo Deerhoof had lined up a split seven-inch that not only featured a Jeff Tweedy collaboration, but a new song from the Wilco singer and his sons Spencer and Sam. While the details were scant in July, all has been revealed.
The record has been titled Behold a Racoon in the Darkness, which is fitting since Tweedy's new family band has officially been christened the Racoonists. Their debut tune, which mans the flip side of the record, is called "Own It."
If you can't wait to hear the track when it's properly released by Polyvinyl on October 11, or if you're just not a vinyl-inclined individual, you preview the footloose and fancy-free rocker in the band's new low-budget video below. If you're big into orchestra conductors and footage of woodland creatures having a chew, you're gonna get a kick out of this.
The new troupe reportedly recorded the lo-fi number in Spencer and Sam's bedroom and plan to record some more songs sometime in the future.
As for the single's A-side, Tweedy tackles vocal duties on the once instrumental Deerhoof number "Behold a Marvel in the Darkness." Keeping it in the family, Spencer also adds some background harmony vocals to the cut.
The single will be issued as a limited pressing of 2,000 copies on clear pink vinyl. That's the cover above.
