Published Aug 02, 2016Carl Sandburg's 1916 collection Chicago Poems celebrates its 100th anniversary this year, and musician David Nagler has recruited a host of Windy City-based songwriters to vocalize Sandburg's words alongside his own music in tribute for a new compilation.
The first taste of what's of the collection features Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy, who sings Sandburg's "Theme in Yellow" alongside gentle acoustic guitar, drums and piano all played by Nagler. While the celebrated poet's words are centred primarily around Halloween, the instrumentation certainly lends itself to sunnier seasons.
Vulture reports that Robbie Fulks, Sally Timms, Kelly Hogan and more are also involved in the record. Take a listen to Tweedy's "Theme in Yellow" in the player below.
Carl Sandburg's Chicago Poems arrives on October 14. Meanwhile, Wilco's next album, Schmilco, is due out on September 9 via the band's own dBpm.
