Jeff Tarlton

Minimal, sloppy but enthusiastic psychedelia is the game from Berlin-based Jeff Tarlton, who recorded this album pretty much wherever he could - kitchens, bedrooms, even occasionally a recording studio. Tarlton demonstrates some good taste for the most part over this long and meandering record, spending the most time in mellowed-out Nuggets territory, which is where his strengths as a songwriter are. The more "experimental" stuff like "Restless Spirits" comes across too indulgent (that's something, given the genre!) but it's one of few missteps here. It's nice to hear something from the indie side of the street that has some sense of history; coming from half a world away only gives it its own special flavour.
