Jeff Bridges Reveals Details for New Solo Album

Following his musical turn in the 2009 film Crazy Heart, Jeff Bridges has become the latest actor to record an album. We already knew that this country-leaning set had been produced by T Bone Burnett and would come out through EMI/Blue Note. Now, we have some more details of the release.

Billboard notes that the album is due to drop on August 16. Fans of Crazy Heart will be pleased to learn that the collection will include a track left over from the movie, which was penned by late songwriter Stephen Bruton. Most of Bridges's contributions to the Crazy Heart soundtrack were written by Bruton, along with Burnett. Bridges's solo effort also features many of the same players who performed in Crazy Heart, while special guests include Rosanne Cash and Benji Hughes.

On Tuesday (May 10), Bridges appeared at the National Association of Recording Merchandisers convention and previewed the album's first two songs. He described one as a "country hit" and said that the other was inspired by the Beach Boys.

There's no word as to whether Bridges will do a full-scale tour in support of the disc, but he's looking to perform some low-key shows in southern California in June. One gig that's confirmed is an appearance on the TV series Austin City Limits.
