Jayhawks' Mark Olson Taps Cardinals' Neal Casal, Jolie Holland and Vashti Bunyan for New Solo Album
Former Jayhawks member Mark Olson is set to release his sophomore solo LP this coming summer, but he isn't alone: the Cardinals' Neal Casal, drummer Danny Frankel, singer Ingunn Ringvold (his girlfriend), Jolie Holland and Vashti Bunyan will all join him for Many Colored Kite.

As Music Remedy reports [via TwentyFourBit], Olson's second solo album, and first recorded material since his 2008 collab with fellow ex-Jawhawk Gary Louris, will drop July 27 courtesy of new label Rykodisc.

Frankel, Ringvold and Casal are all feature players for most of the album, while Holland and Bunyan provide guest vocals on opening track "Little Bird of Freedom" and album cuts "No Time to Live Without Her" and "Blue Bell," respectively.

Ryko is welcoming the artist with open arms, and it sounds like Olson was only to happy to reciprocate:

"When I hung up the phone after I heard that Ryko wanted to put out my album I went out onto the porch and started a small dance that was interrupted by a large gem and mineral collection. I realized I didn't really want to be building a geology museum anymore, I wanted to start a band again. I threw the petrified wood and geodes off the porch and into the sand. I called Ingunn and said, 'You're in the band and now let's leave our jobs and be able to take the trains again and tour with this music.'"
