Jay Z became the first rapper ever to be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame today (June 15), and in acknowledging his latest bit of recognition, the hip-hop icon dusted off his Twitter account to pay homage to those that have inspired him throughout his life of music-making.

In addition to telling followers that he's "new on this," Jay's Twitter spree found him praising artists young and old, from Big Daddy Kane to Playboi Carti, Snoop Dogg to ScHoolboy Q.

Jay also shared a Dropbox link featuring a prerecorded induction speech from friend and former President Barack Obama. "I like to think Mr. Carter and I understand each other. Nobody who met us when we were younger men would have expected us to be where we are today," he said.
