Published Sep 25, 2013Apparently ready to wish you a "ho-ho-Hova" and a Merry Christmas, Jay Z has announced his next business venture is a seasonal team-up with high-priced New York department store Barneys. The enterprises will collaborate for a line of clothing items under the banner "A New York Holiday."
According to a press sheet, Jay Z and Barneys have likewise joined forces with fashion houses Balenciaga, Balmain, Lanvin, The Elder Statesman, En Noir, Hoorsenbuhs, Just Don, Proenza Schouler, Rick Owens, Stutterheim, Acne Studios, and Cutler & Gross to make a number of limited-edition pieces inspired by New York City. The articles will be presented in the colour palette of black, white, gold and silver, and will be sold at the Barneys New York and Shawn Corey Carter Gallery starting November 20.
"With this project, Barneys New York and I were able to take the slickness, energy, and innovation of New York City and translate that into quality, timeless pieces," Jay Z said in a statement. "Everything that encompasses 'A New York Holiday' — the items chosen, the amazing designers that participated, the windows, the design of the BNY SCC Gallery — represents a perfect example of a unique and groundbreaking collaboration that I hope demonstrates how inspiring New York has been to me."
You can check out some of the merchandise, from a Balenciaga leather backpack to a glitzy double ring by Hoorsenbuhs, over here. Twenty-five percent of sales will go to the Shawn Carter Foundation, "a New York-based charity which awards post-secondary scholarships to students facing socio-economic hardships."
Additionally, the store's Madison Avenue window will host a LED-laden window display conceived by Mr. Carter, visual artist Joanie Lemercier and Barneys New York Creative Director Dennis Freedman.
Meanwhile, Jay Z will spend much of his holiday season out supporting his Magna Carta Holy Grail LP on tour. The trip hits Montreal and Toronto, and you'll find all the tour info here.
