Jay Z, Kendrick Lamar, Pharrell Williams, Justin Timberlake Lead 2014 Grammy Nominees

The 56th annual Grammy Awards take place on January 26, and the nominees were announced tonight (December 6) as part of the Grammy Nominations Concert Live! TV special.

Jay Z led the way with nine nominations, including Best Rap Album, Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance. Also on the rap front, Kendrick Lamar netted seven nominations with his 2012 masterpiece good kid, m.A.A.d. city, earning nods for Album of the Year, Best Rap Album, Best New Artist, Best Rap Performance and more.

Also earning seven nominations were Pharrell Williams (thanks to his involvement with Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines" and Daft Punk's "Get Lucky"), Justin Timberlake, and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis.

On the Canadian front, Drake is up for Best Rap Album, Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance. Some other multiple award nominees include Daft Punk, Kanye West, Lorde, Queens of the Stone Age, David Bowie, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Katy Perry and Jack White.

Some of the artists up for a single award include A$AP Rocky, Disclosure and James Blake. This year's Best Alternative Music Album nominees are Neko Case, the National, Nine inch Nails, Tame Impala and Vampire Weekend.

The Grammy Nominations Concert Live! special was hosted by LL Cool J. The event took place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, with performers appearing in person or via remote broadcast. The show featured Lorde, Miguel, Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, Robin Thicke and more.
