It’s time to break out that change jar and head to New York — the CMJ Marathon is on its way. From October 21 to 25, a ridiculously long list of bands will descend on NYC and kick out the jams. The initial line-up, which was announced today, features Jay Reatard, Gang Gang Dance, A Place To Bury Strangers, Beach House, Broken Social Scene, Cool Kids, Lee "Scratch" Perry, Lykke Li, Matthew Dear, School Of Seven Bells, Vivian Girls and Yo Majesty. And seriously, that's just the beginning.

Along with all the live action, CMJ will include a whole stack of panels, which will dig into topics like Essential Resources for Independent Labels, Internationally Licensing the Future, A New Media Fat-Trimming Session, Bands as Brands and Artist Managers: The New Labels? There will also be a chunk of films playing at CMJ, which will be announced shortly, as well as a complete list of all the panel discussions.

To see the long, long list of bands playing CMJ this year you can visit the event’s website. Also, you can get tickets, which are $415 ($245 for students), if you register on the site by August 19 for an all-access pass.
