Remember when we told you that Fat Possum was on a signing frenzy for its rapidly growing roster? Well, we weren't kidding. The label has now added Arizona-based synth-heavy garage punk ensemble Digital Leather to its ranks.
Digital Leather began as the recording project of Shawn Foree before erupting into a full band. After touring and recording, the band caught the attention of Jay Reatard, who put out records on his Shattered imprint and now manages the group. (How's that for a little cred?)
With the signing, Digital Leather have recorded their Fat Possum debut, called Warm Brother. The record is due out next month. As the press sheet says, "The songs on this album seem somewhat lo-fi, but the songwriting is impeccable; the tracks could sound just as at home on an acoustic guitar as they do with a full band. This album feels like garage-rock from the dark side, a complex, genre-bending puzzle that is immediately listenable."
