Published Jul 04, 2011After a number of false promises, the rumour mill was buzzing that Kanye West and Jay-Z's long-awaited Watch the Throne album would hit the web this week via a Radiohead-esque marketing plan. Now, reps from the artists have confirmed that this won't happen, but they've somewhat quelled our disappointment by dropping the album's cover and a pre-order.
The abstract gold image above is Watch the Throne's official cover. The picture was inititally leaked to the web last night (July 3) and later confirmed via Jay-Z's Life + Times blog. The image, which we hope comes on fancy gold paper for the physical version, echoes the artwork that accompanied last year's "H.A.M." single.
Jay-Z's blog also linked to a pre-order page where fans can buy a regular or deluxe CD, as well as a regular or deluxe digital download. Once the release is purchased, the receipt states that the album will be released on August 2.
In other words, if the official pre-order is to be believed, Watch the Throne will be available on August 2 via Island/Def Jam.
