Jay-Z Leaves Def Jam

Though he signed his multimillion dollar Live Nation deal last year, it appears that Jay-Z couldn't bring himself to drop one last album for Def Jam, and has bought out his contract.

In an exclusive interview with Rap Radar, Hova gave the following statement: "I can honestly say, working with [Universal's] Doug Morris and [Def Jam's] LA Reid has been a unique and fulfilling experience and I respect them immensely. I've been in the family for almost my entire career. Doug and I spoke directly and had one of the most unique 'negotiations' ever. Doug won the toss but we both won in the end. I thank him for allowing me to be a completely independent artist. Not every artist can say they own, or are given the opportunity to own, all of their music." You know, other than the majority of all independent bands.

Now that Jay's out of his Def Jam project, he has fulfilled his prophecy, first spoken on The Blueprint: "One million, two million, three million, four/In just five years, forty million more/You are now lookin' at the forty million boy/I'm rapin' Def Jam 'til I'm the hundred million man."
