Jason Collett Announces 'Reckon'
It's been two years since Jason Collett delivered the one-two punch of Rat-a-Tat-tat and Pony Tricks, and the Broken Social Scene associate is ready to deliver some new material. Collett has announced his next LP will be called Reckon, and it drops September 25 through longtime label Arts & Crafts.

A press release for the set suggests the upcoming LP deals with some dour topics, with the songwriter admitting the song cycle revolves around loss and was inspired by the globe's economic woes from 2008 and onward.

"I've seen firsthand the kind of devastation this crisis has wrecked upon much of the world I've toured these last few years," Collett said in a statement. "The shut-down-shops and foreclosed homes on the suburban fringes as I've made my way to and from cities I've played. This record is a personal reflection of the crisis we've all witnessed and read about every day in the paper. Calling it Reckon is an acknowledgement of loss ... lost jobs, lost homes, loss of faith in our political and financial institutions and in turn, loss of illusion."

Reckon features guest appearances from Bahamas's Afie Jurvanen, Basia Bulat, Kevin Drew and Zeus, and was recorded last year at Revolution Recording Studios in Toronto just as the Occupy Movement was exploding.

Collett's support for the 99-percenters is apparent in the new video for album track "I Want to Rob a Bank," which features clips of protestors clashing with cops at New York's Wall Street Stock Exchange, among other conflicts. You can watch the video down below, as well as stream and/or download the track.
