Jarvis Cocker Signs On to Narrate Peter and the Wolf

In addition to reuniting with Pulp, Britpop icon Jarvis Cocker has been branching out as of late. Earlier this year, he became an ambassador for a European train line, and then he released an album of field recordings through the National Trust. Now, he's signed on to narrate Prokofiev's classic Peter and the Wolf.

The show will take place next month, with the Philharmonia Orchestra staging four performances at London, UK's Southbank Centre between December 29 and 30.

In case you need a refresher, Peter and the Wolf is a children's classic that uses the instruments of the orchestra to help describe the animals in the story. Cocker isn't the first famous person to sign on to narrate the tale; the singer said, "I'm also honoured to be following in the footsteps of such luminaries as David Bowie, Sean Connery and Dame Edna Everage by narrating this classic tale for young and old." Alec Guinness and Sharon Stone are among the many others who have narrated Peter and the Wolf.
