Published Feb 24, 2015Montreal-based producer and musician Jarryd Torff drops his new EP Islands today (February 24), and you can stream it in its entirety right here at Exclaim!
Multi-instrumentalist Torff has toured as a jazz session musician (recently sharing the stage with acts like Nikki Yanofsky), and does some work teaching sound theory at Canadian universities. With Islands, though, he's set to refocus on expressing his own creativity.
The five-song set takes its title from the places Torff grew up and developed his sound. "I grew up on the islands of Montreal and New York City," he said in a statement. "This music is a blend of the experiences I've had in these two cities and the images are a blend of Brooklyn, and the south shore of Montreal."
Featuring "breezy positive house-y sounds," Islands follows Torff's previously released upbeat, synth-infused take on Sam Smith's mega-hit "Stay with Me." The new EP instead opts to feature original compositions that are both sonically refreshing and immediately danceable.
As the song titles imply, the new collection ranges from tracks that make you "Feel Alright" to ones that aren't afraid to experiment with music that's a little more "Insane." You can hear that full range by giving Torff's Islands EP a listen in the player below.
