James Van Der Beek Will Play Diplo in a New EDM Sitcom

Since launching last year, Viceland has quickly become synonymous with unique television programming. Up next, the network has announced plans for its first scripted series, and we're pretty damn excited about it.

The show is tentatively called What Would Diplo Do? and sees Dawson's Creek star James Van Der Beek step into the role of the world-famous electronic producer.

As Deadline reports, the show is being described as "Louie meets WorldStar HipHop crossed with This Is Spinal Tap," with Van Der Beek's Diplo being a "guy who can bring 60,000 people to their feet… but kind of sucks one-on-one."

Viceland has ordered six episodes of the show. In addition to starring, Van Der Beek also wrote and executive produced the show, and will serve as its showrunner. Speaking with Deadline, he said, "The show doesn't take itself too serious but it's not cynical."

Stay tuned for more news on this fascinating comedy as it becomes available.
