James Teej

Evening Harvest

BY Sarah FergusonPublished Jul 25, 2010

Early last year, James Teej was invited to play with Radio Slave at Berghain's Panorama Bar, the eminent techno venue made of steel and concrete, housed in a former power-generating plant in Berlin. Now, a year-and-a-half down the road, this electronic producer (originally from Canmore) releases Evening Harvest on London's Rekids Records, the imprint run by Matt Edwards (aka Radio Slave) and James Masters. Currently residing in Toronto, ON, Teej is one of the rare Canadian techno producers earning high respect internationally yet still living in the Great White North. Evening Harvest features talented production of an old school, genuine nature. "Greenback," featuring dOP, is a holistic track exhibiting warmth, connection, and gorgeous variation of shades through sound and vocals: ("Colours, show your rainbow"). "We Collide" is a techno track for the dance floor, rich with deep vocals, hi-hats and optimistic synths. And "Sicken" takes on the percussive nature of a stormy night. Evening Harvest demostrates Teej's classical training in music getting to the heart of techno for the world to hear.
