James Pants

"Darlin"

BY Josiah HughesPublished Nov 12, 2010

Stones Throw signee James Pants is one of the most peculiar acts on the label, which is quite a feat considering Madvillain and Dam-Funk are among his peers. While he doesn't wear a mask or destroy our notions of hip-hop, James Pants keeps it interesting with a steady flow of synth-heavy pop music that doesn't really sound like other things we've heard before.

Pants recently dropped new track "Darlin," which will be included on his next album, Love Kraft, due in spring of 2011. The track is some sort of outer space doo-wop love song, complete with crooning vocals, fuzzy synth warbles and big drums. If Phil Spector was a producer from the future, his music would sound like this.
