James Franco Joins Forces with DJ /rupture for New EP

Aside from playing a lovable stoner in both Freaks & Geeks and The Pineapple Express, Oscar-nominated actor James Franco is a man of many hats. From directing his work to attending Harvard for a film degree, there isn't much he won't do. Last year, the actor had a semi-ironic stint on long-running soap opera General Hospital, where he invited performance artist and sometime drag queen Kalup Linzy to come play on the show. Since then, they've formed experimental group Kalup & Franco.

Now, Pitchfork reports that Kalup & Linzy will release their debut EP, Turn It Up, via Dutty Artz, the label co-founded by the equally forward-thinking DJ /rupture. The three-track release features production from DJ /rupture, Nettle's Brent Arnold and Dutty Artz co-owner Matt Shadetek.

Turn It Up will be available on July 12 as a limited seven-inch and digital download. In addition to the release, the duo are planning music videos for each song that will include "surprise guest cameos."

A live video of Kalup & Franco can be streamed below.
