We already knew that director Bobcat Goldthwait was planning on turning the Kinks' 1976 concept album Schoolboys in Disgrace into a big-screen musical. Well, the film just got a whole lot more exciting. According to ScreenDaily, prolific Third Man Records boss Jack White may be joining the project.
White's involvement is apparently unconfirmed at this point, but the garage rocker is "in talks to re-record the music." This likely means that he will be producing and overseeing the project, as opposed to actually singing the songs himself.
This isn't too much of a surprise, since it's hardly the first time White has contributed music to a movie. He recorded the song "Another Way to Die" for the 2008 Bond film Quantum of Solace and performed a number of folk songs in 2003's Cold Mountain. He also made a cameo as Elvis Presley in the 2007 comedy Walk Hard.
In other good news for Schoolboys in Disgrace, Goldthwait's musical has reportedly roped in the Kinks' own Ray Davies as an executive producer. The film will be produced, at least in part, by Warp Films, Howard Gertler and Tim Perell.
Big thanks to The Playlist for the tip.
