We all know that Jack White loves to claim world records, be it the shortest live show, the most expensive flexi-disc or the fastest-released vinyl. Now, he's claimed yet another record, as Lazaretto has reportedly raked in the biggest first-week vinyl sales since Nielsen SoundScan began tracking information in 1991.
An announcement on White's website notes that his fancy-schmancy "Ultra LP" for Lazaretto has sold more than 40,000 copies in the U.S. alone. What's more, the album topped the charts in the U.S., Canada and Denmark, so many more vinyl copies were doubtless sold in other countries.
Of course, 40,000 copies almost certainly isn't an all-time record; rather, it's the most since 1991, by which time vinyl was being phased out and CDs dominated the music industry.
White has made the most of vinyl's recent resurgence. In 2012, his debut solo album Blunderbuss was named SoundScan's best-selling vinyl record of that year.
