J Mascis's 'Live at CBGB's' Gets Vinyl Reissue

While later this month J Mascis will deliver his new solo LP, Tied to a Star, the Dinosaur Jr. leader is also about to step in the wayback machine via a vinyl repress of his first-ever unplugged performance.

Dubbed, appropriately, J Mascis Live at CBGB's: First Acoustic Show, the concert performance had originally appeared on CD in 2006 through Warner Bros./Rhino/Blanco y Negro. This first-ever vinyl release, due September 9, comes pressed on 180-gram silver/black marble wax via Music on Vinyl.

A press release notes that the set finds the artist, at the time generally known for his "bludgeoning volume and über-heavy electric guitar freakouts" dialling down the distortion in favour of exploring his Dinosaur Jr catalogue with an unplugged six-string.

Recorded in December 1993, it starts off with Mascis' statement, "My first ever acoustic performance, and I'm a little freaked out," and from there he works into simplified versions of then-new Where You Been tracks like "Not the Same," "Get Me" and "What Else Is New," among others. You'll find the full tracklisting down below.

As for Tied to a Star, Mascis's most recent work features guest appearances from the likes of Cat Power, and hits stores August 25 via Sub Pop.
