J Dilla's Posthumous 'Jay Love Japan' Gets Proper Reissue

BY Calum SlingerlandPublished Apr 6, 2016

Jay Love Japan, the third posthumous release from legendary hip-hop producer J Dilla, has had a history of promotional and bootleg releases since its initial arrival in 2007. Now, the collection is set to receive some proper reissue treatment this spring.

Inspired by one of the late artist's favourite places to visit on tour, the album will be officially released on CD and vinyl on May 6 through Vintage Vibez Music Group, which is ran by J Dilla's mother.

Deluxe edition pre-order packages include the album on both CD and vinyl, an exclusive Jay Love Japan T-shirt, and a 7-inch flexidisc not available through retailers. The record is set to feature vocal tracks from Blu, Miguel, J*Davey, Ta'Raach, Exile, Baatin and more.

The announcement comes after the impending release of another posthumous Dilla effort in The Diary, as well as a new box set commemorating his work with Slum Village.

Pre-orders for the official reissue of Jay Love Japan are now open, with information available here. Take a listen to the Smokey Robinson-sampling bonus cut "The Look" in the player below, as well as the track "Sun in My Face."
