Isotopia Exhibit

Exhibit is lo-fi indie rock put out on a low budget label with what appears to be colour printer-generated liner notes and CD art. The contents encompass archived material by Isotopia from 1994 to the year 2000. The music is psychedelic indie rock with catchy lyrics and melodies that are rough around the edges. Yet the material is solid with deceptively amateurish and understated playing that fans of Yo La Tengo and Galaxie 500 would appreciate. These songs ooze a coolness and savvy that flirts with a variety of styles such as space and garage rock in the classic sense of the word. This album has the charm of listening to an underground band at 2 a.m. on community radio, drowsily trying to retain the name in your memory for future reference while being seduced by the layered guitars, spaced out sequencing and pleasantly droning vocals. Unpretentious, obscure and a gem of an album. (Isonaut)
