Island People

'These Days' (EP stream)

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Dec 11, 2015

Hamilton's Island People are set to drop their debut EP These Days in exactly seven days, but Exclaim! is giving you the chance to hear their inaugural musical offering in its entirety right now.

The four-piece wear their slacker rock-lovin' hearts on their sleeve, praising the Edmonton-bred jangle of artists like Mac DeMarco, Homeshake and Michael Rault, but injecting the genre with the grit of their own Steeltown roots.

"Our goal in the early stages of writing These Days was to make a love song that doesn't bum the listener out," the band explained in a statement. "From there it stemmed off to be the main focus and theme of the whole album. We did our best to create feel good tunes that are easy to relate to so it made sense to write about love."

Keeping it in the Hammer family, the new-seven song set was recorded with producer Dan Edmonds (formerly of Harlan Pepper) on his ½-inch tape deck. The result is a set of melodic, mellowed-out, laid-back guitar-pop jams that are sure to brighten things up and remind you of the warmer weather and sunshine of summers past.

These Days officially arrives on December 18, and the band will play a hometown show at This Ain't Hollywood on December 23. For now, give their debut EP an early listen in the player below.
