ISC Seeking Songwriters For Competition

BY Cam LindsayPublished Jun 10, 2008

Attention aspiring songwriters, the International Songwriting Competition (ISC) is now accepting entries for the 2008 edition of their global contest. This year more than $150,000 in cash and prizes is up for grabs, as well as an overall grand prize of $25,000 (U.S.) cash and an additional $20,000 in prizes. If that wasn't enough, check out the impressive list of established judges responsible for selecting winners: Robert Smith (The Cure), Tom Waits, T-Pain, Chaka Khan, Neil Finn (Crowded House), Ray Davies (The Kinks), "Weird Al" Yankovic, Frank Black, and Loretta "The Coal Miner's Daughter" Lynn, among others - which includes Rob Thomas (Matchbox 20) and DJ Tiësto, but the world ain't perfect, right?

Heck, the Cure's Robert Smith, an ISC judge for the past three years, even gave them a juicy soundbite praising the competition, saying, "I am astounded at the quality and range of abilities - the originality, honesty, and depth of so many of the words, the charm, vivacity, and catchiness of the tunes, and the often staggering energy, skill, and intensity of the performances - the talent has left me at times breathless!" (Dude wrote Pornography, Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me and Disintegration, so I think we can take his word for it.)

The ISC welcomes original songs from musicians, artists, and songwriters at every level from amateur to professional. Entrants may submit songs in any of the following categories: Pop/Top 40, AAA (Adult Album Alternative), Rock, Country, Americana, R&B/Hip-Hop, Blues, Folk/Singer-Songwriter, Jazz, Gospel/Christian, Latin Music, Instrumental, Dance/Electronica, Comedy/Novelty, World Music, Children's Music, Lyrics Only, Teen, Performance, and the recently added Music Video.
