Isaac Vallentin

"Part of It" (video)

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Jul 5, 2017

Former Pony Girl player Isaac Vallentin released his debut solo LP Hedera in 2015, and now the Ottawa-based musician has returned with a new single.

"Part of It" combines Vallentin's folk and electro influences in an unexpected and intriguing mix of sound, and the track has been treated to some visual accompaniment courtesy of Berlin-based artist Freeda.

"I met Freeda in Italy last summer; we were working together as designers, and I quickly learned that she is super talented," Vallentin tells Exclaim! "She's designed the coolest sneakers, bags, furniture — there's really no limit. After working together, I stayed at her place in Berlin a couple of times while touring, and I asked her to make a video for one of my songs. What you see is what she interpreted and created. Her generosity and artistic ability seriously humble me."

Interestingly enough, Vallentin has also released an alternate version of "Part of It" that leans toward sounding like an '80s power ballad; that rendition is only available via cassette. The digital version can be heard by playing the accompanying video down below.
