Is This New Pokémon Based on Gene Simmons from KISS?

As the Pokémon franchise gears up to release new games Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield for the Nintendo Switch console on November 15, the juggernaut videogame series has been unveiling several new creatures for players to capture and train. One newly revealed creature has the internet asking: is this new Pokémon based on Gene Simmons' classic KISS look?

In a new video released this morning (August 7), several new Pokémon were revealed including Obstagoon, a bipedal weasel with black and white facial markings and a lolling tongue. The features bear more than a passing resemblance to Gene Simmons' KISS look, including grey fur that looks like Simmons' shoulder pauldrons and wrist guards.

To further the similarities, Obstagoon's pre-evolved forms — new variants of pre-existing Pokémon Zigzagoon and Linoone — also feature the signature wagging tongue, along with star-like eye markings resembling KISS's Paul Stanley's "Starchild" makeup.

Neither Pokémon nor Gene Simmons have yet to weigh in on the similarities.
