Well, apparently Sam Beam and his beard have decided they better do a bit of spring cleaning and have announced that Iron and Wine are releasing a new rarities comp. Titled Around the Well, the collection finds Beam cleaning out the closet and offering up two CDs (or three LPs) worth of rare, previously unreleased and/or out-of-print recordings from throughout the wispy folkie's career.
Among the unearthed goods, there are a few notable inclusions, such as the covers of the Postal Service's "Such Great Heights," New Order's "Love Vigilantes" and the Flaming Lips' "Waitin' for a Superman," as well as three previously unreleased tracks written for the film In Good Company.
In addition to this bit of odds'n'sods action, Iron and Wine are also hitting the trail to play a series of intimate shows in a few select U.S. cities. For each show, the band are letting fans choose the set lists by allowing them to vote on the group's website as to which songs they'd most like to hear. And if you aren't up for some cross-border concert-going, the performances will be available to download after the shows at the Played Last Night website.
Around the Well is due out via Sub Pop on May 19.
