Iris

"I'll Wait for You"

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Nov 24, 2014

Spanish-born, Montreal-based musician Iris has been in the biz for a while now. Serving as the drummer of Roads for nearly two decades, Iris Campo is ready to ditch the drums — and the last name — to pursue a new path as a solo artist with her debut single "I'll Wait for You."

The switch to solo songwriting comes after a couple years of health struggles with a Chron's-like disease called Ulcerative colitis. Following emergency surgery, she's refocused on sharing her passion for music and looks back on the experience "as dying and being reborn."

The track comes from her forthcoming EP, which was produced in Nashville with Scott Moffatt (yes, of the Moffatts).

"When I wrote I'll Wait for You the lyrics came out fast, like a revelation in a way," she said, in a statement about the new song. "It took me 15 minutes and they poured out effortlessly. I think, prior to writing this song, I was always trying so hard for it all to make sense, but this one just came out. For me it's about never giving up on what you truly want in life. It's that moment when you realize that you can accomplish anything if you put your heart into, and if you're supposed to be with someone, your paths will surely cross again."
