ILOVEMAKONNEN signed to Drake's OVO Sound imprint in 2014, and proceeded to release Drink More Water 5, ILOVEMAKONNEN2 and Drink More Water 6 through the label. Now, sources say the artist is no longer a signed artist.
Despite being listed as a member of the OVO Sound roster on their official website, sources have told both Billboard and Inverse that Makonnen is no longer signed. Many have wondered about his status with the label after he spoke to FADER in March of last year.
"It's cool, they put out my music and stuff and we just keep it moving. Let them tell you their relationship with Makonnen," he told the magazine. "I'm just an artist, being an artist, and there's only so much that I can do."
It appears the prospects of grinding solo have motivated Makonnen even more. On top of dropping a new track alongside Lil B, the two have even teased a joint tour on Instagram, with a photo caption reading "add ur city below and we will come."
