Ibeyi

"River" (Richard Russell remix)

BY Sarah MurphyPublished May 8, 2015

French-Cuban twin two-piece Ibeyi wowed with their self-titled debut album earlier this year, but now they've shared an alternate take on one of the record's tracks.

The album version of "River" pairs the song's religious imagery with angelic choral harmonies and thick, groovy rhythms. The new rendition comes courtesy of the record's producer and XL Recordings boss, Richard Russell.

Removing the angelic backing vocals and replacing them with synths and scratching, it's definitely a more club-friendly tune than anything else we've heard from the sisterly duo. That killer bass hook still remains in tact, though.
