Hypnos

Screwdriver

This disc is a curious mixture of electronic and experimental. Fuzzy guitars and distorted blips and beeps are combined with more tuneful moments taking the listener down many avenues. The ominous, gothic sounds of Quebec City’s Hypnos can be attributed largely to vocalist Julie Tremblay. She wails her way through the dense, electronic, guitar-laden forest of sound with ease giving a melodic backbone to the project. The music stays in the realm of heavy for the most part, getting a bit messy, a bit manic, at times, reminding me of aggro-electronic acts like Orgy. Don’t miss "Snow Flakes,” where Tremblay’s stunning operatic range is in top form.
