Malaysian quintet Humiliation offer up war-themed, groove-filled, Bolt Thrower-inspired death metal. Their latest album, Turbulence from the Deep, is no exception, featuring 11 crushing, doom-laden headbangers. Having released their debut full-length, Dawn of Warfare, in 2010, Turbulence from the Deep is their fourth album in just four years, and it's obvious they haven't had any problems coming up with fresh, new material. Although the album continues with their lyrical themes of war and is filled with militaristic rhythms, the record isn't just a Bolt Thrower rip-off, as Humiliation integrate their twist on the iconic sound. "Operation Obeo One" contains catchy, blazing, doom-style riffs, while "Phosphorous Shell" features classic, mid-tempo death beats. Turbulence from the Deep also incorporates a few surprises, like the fast-paced, dynamic, thrash-esque "Total War," as well as sombre acoustic guitar closer "Submerged at the Seabed." While the moniker seems quite juvenile, Humiliation's music definitely isn't; Turbulence from the Deep exhibits exceptional song-writing and musicianship.
