Hot Panda Set To Erupt with New Record

BY Brock ThiessenPublished Nov 28, 2008

Indie poppin’ Edmontonians Hot Panda have leaked word they’re getting ready for their full-length debut. After being signed to Mint Records earlier this year, the young quartet are set to drop Volcano... Bloody Volcano on February tenth via the long-time Vancouver label.

The album follows Hot Panda’s self-released White Headed Girl EP and opening slots for the likes of Women, the Bicycles and the Clipse, along with sets at CMJ and Pop Montreal. Mint describes their latest pop darlings as being "reminiscent of Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, State Bird, older Flaming Lips (think ‘Tangerine’), with flashes of An Albatross,” as well you can throw a bit of Daniel Johnson and Talking Heads in for good measure.

As previously reported, Hot Panda are set to play Mint’s Ridiculously Early Xmas Party on December 6, and the day earlier on December 5 at Logan’s in Victoria.

The press release tells us to keep an eye out for a pile of 2009 tour dates, including performances at SXSW in March. There’s no track listing yet for Volcano... Bloody Volano but one should be up on Mint’s website shortly.
