Hot as Sun

'Night Time Sound Desire' (album stream)

Last year, Los Angeles pop outfit Hot as Sun signed with Last Gang Records, and they recently announced their debut album for the label. That LP, Night Time Sound Desire, will officially drop on March 26, and until then you can stream the whole thing on Exclaim.ca.

The album was written and recorded in Hot as Sun's basement in Los Angeles' Glassell Park neighbourhood, with the band's own Jamie Jackson acting as producer. Their influences include the Chordettes, Harry Nilsson, Beastie Boys and Mississippi gospel, while the tunes meld psych and electro-pop with Phil Spector-style production.

We've already heard the upbeat opening single "Dahnce to the Beat." This is a good introduction to the disc's vivid, synth-heavy sound, which includes forays like the slow and dramatic "Mother I'm Alive" and the mechanically echoing "Dime in the Pocket," plus a number of dreamy pop tunes.
