Hooded Fang's latest LP, Venus on Edge, is a noisy and intense piece of work. The rhythm is driving and intriguing right out of the gate, reminiscent of the opening track of Neu!'s debut, "Hallogallo." A Krautrock influence remains throughout the album, especially in moments like the ending section of "A Final Hello" — although it develops in a shorter period of time. The lead guitar moves around the high end, adding a screeching fervour to the steady chug of the rhythm section.

Tremolo picking on tracks like "Vacant Light" maintain this pace, and interesting tuning decisions give the record a punk-y edge. Daniel Lee's vocals sound somewhat like the low blues-y area, but he maintains a breakneck pace and is willing to test boundaries and risk being abrasive. "Dead Battery" comments on our waste-driven culture, which provides products "bought at the speed of our trash" and yields "disposable rock for a patient mass." Venus on Edge album is warped, intense and definitely worth a listen.
