Homewrecker / The Love Below

Homewrecker / The Love Below

BY Farah BarakatPublished Jul 23, 2011

This seven-inch split from A389 features Ohio hardcore heavyweights Homewrecker and the hard punk of California's the Love Below. Both bands have been creating a buzz with previous releases, this split being a joint venture combining two different hardcore subgenres into one ferocious release. Homewrecker include two songs off of their Internal Morgue EP, including the title track, which features Weekend Nachos frontman John Caution. Their hardcore sound has an undeniable metal influence, best heard in "Cemetery Man," which features speed metal drums reminiscent of West coast HC (think Madball). Aforementioned standout track "Internal Morgue" switches between urgent, high tempo riffs and slower melodic hardcore. The Love Below include three songs that have a less punk feel than those heard on their previous Reproductive Rights EP. Their new material mixes in sludge and stoner metal, not entirely straying from hard punk, stirring it in quite well to create a Cursed meets Left for Dead with a little bit of Baroness feel. This split provides a great glimpse into what's to come from their respective upcoming releases.
