Holly Golightly

God Don't Like It

BY Ian DanzigPublished Jul 1, 2000

A sometime member of Billy Childish's now defunct Headcoats demonstrates her affinity for old school rock'n'roll on God Don't Like It. Although this is Holly's second solo full-length album; it's her first recorded as a whole, during a week at London's vintage Toe Rag studios. The Holly Golightly band are full of chiming riffs, stand-up bass blues, heartfelt guitar twang, honking harmonica and tasty rollicking hooks. The result is a classic rolling shuffle topped off with Holly's oh-so-sweet girl-next-door vocals. Take note: the cover painting of Holly and her band is by Mekon main man Jon Langford.
