Since finishing up with Hollerado last winter, the band's former frontman and Royal Mountain Records honcho Menno Versteeg has been sporadically releasing solo material, including his debut album as Mav Karlo, Reno Tapes, earlier this year. Now, Versteeg has shared a couple of one-off tracks: a cover of Weaves' "Walkaway" and a new single titled "Elevator," featuring Vivian Girls' Katy Goodman.

Today, Mav Karlo has shared accompanying videos for the two tracks, Liam Hamilton's animated video for "Walkaway" and Martin MacPherson's animated video for "Elevator." Both songs are fitting explorations of mental health, a subject Versteeg is familiar with.

In a statement, he had the following to say about his new recording in relation to his experience with mental health:

Whether it's a hypomanic episode or a depression, the feeling at the time is so all-encompassing and real that it seems like that is the only reality that I have ever known. I relish the times in between, the periods of stillness when I'm able to be fully present in the moment and able to interact with my environment and the people in my life with the confidence that comes with being in equilibrium.

Both songs are available to stream and purchase now.

Earlier this month, Versteeg also shared a few covers on a new limited-edition cassette collection in support of the Art for Aid Project, a Métis-run organization that supports First Nations, Inuit and Métis art education programs.
